๐Ÿ”๏ธ Five Skiers Found Dead After Avalanche Near Zermatt, Switzerland

ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND โ€“ May 25, 2025 โ€” Tragedy has struck the Swiss Alps as five skiers were found dead on the Adler Glacier near Zermatt, one of Switzerlandโ€™s most renowned ski resorts.

๐Ÿšจ Victims Discovered After Search Near Rimpfischhorn Mountain

The discovery was made after two climbers alerted local authorities around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, reporting abandoned skis in the area. A helicopter team from Air Zermatt was dispatched and located the bodies during a search operation.

According to Canton Valais Police:

  • Three bodies were found on an avalanche cone

  • Two additional victims were discovered higher up on the snowfield

๐Ÿ” Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. The Public Prosecutorโ€™s Office has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

Located near the Matterhorn, Zermatt draws thousands of international tourists each year for its skiing, mountaineering, and breathtaking scenery. It lies roughly 128 miles from Geneva and 127 miles from Milan.

Avalanches remain a significant risk in this high-altitude region, particularly during the late spring thaw.
